Stop Global Whining Now!

Category: news and politics, scienceSteve @ 15:10 pm

Extreme Mortman does it again, with a summary of hatemail received by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) following their ads which expose the hype of global warming.

Been insulted recently? Been the victim of a vicious ad hominem attack? Well, you ain?t seen nuthin? yet. Wait?ll you get a load of these doozies.Quick background: The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) has, in its words, “produced two 60-second television spots focusing on the alleged global warming crisis and the calls by some environmental groups and politicians for reduced energy use.” You can see the ads here.

As you can imagine, not everyone, well, agrees with the ads. Here are samples of some of the “fan” mail the CEI received:

“You sick lying soulless ignorant SOBs! Selling out that kid in your commercials future for a few more dollars. Nothing in the Science supports the misleading claims in your adds. ? You can expect an especially large amount of warming in your future?IN HELL! Anyway have a good day?Jackasses! Ignorance and greed mixed together?what a [stupid] combination.”"This ad is so stupid as to be humorous. Had I not seen it on your website I would ahve thought it was produced by The Onion or the cast of Saturday Night Live. Will you next run ads saying the earth is flat? Please, keep running it!” [from an assistant District Attorney in Wisconsin]

Global Warming is Not Your Fault

Category: global whining, scienceSteve @ 21:41 pm

The good folks at Molten Thought are going on hiatus, but they leave us with more of those pesky facts that tend to disprove human-caused climate warming:

It’s the sun, stupid.

Hmm, that sounds familiar—wonder where we heard that before?

Genesis Bible Study

Found an interesting old-earth creation/ID Bible study. The site is called Accuracy in Genesis. I think the YEC-ers are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall…

The Eeeevils of Critical Thinking

Category: faith, scienceSteve @ 09:10 am

I think this one fits well with the Nihilist Quote of the Week post (below).

Evolution debate reaches South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C., May 9 (UPI) — South Carolina lawmakers are again embroiled in the continuing evolution controversy to decide how textbooks should present scientific theory.

Supporters of two bills before the legislature claim they only want to ensure textbooks enhance students’ development of critical thinking skills, The (Columbia, S.C.) State reported Tuesday.

Critics say ‘critical thinking skills’ are code words for inserting religious theories like intelligent design into biology lessons.

We certainly want people thinking critically now, do we?

Islamists Threaten Omar Sharif with Death

Category: faith, news and politicsSteve @ 08:35 am

By way of Mangan’s Miscellany.

“Islamists Threaten Omar Sharif with DeathFrom The Guardian. Why?

A message on a website linked to al-Qaida has threatened death to the veteran Egyptian actor Omar Sharif after he played St Peter in an Italian TV film.In remarks widely reported in Italy earlier this month, the 73-year old actor, a convert to Islam, said he had ’seemed to hear voices’ during the filming of St Peter, a two-part mini-series shown last week. Sharif was quoted as saying: ‘Playing Peter was so important for me that even now I can only speak about it with difficulty. It will be difficult for me to play other roles from now on.”

Once again, The Religion With The World’s Biggest Chip On Its Shoulder cannot bear that anyone else be anything but a Muslim. The article gives some examples of other things which offend Muslims, which would be hilarious if they weren’t true, and weren’t backed by people willing to kill:

In 1968, with memories of the six-day war with Israel fresh in Arab minds, he caused a furore by kissing a Jewish woman, Barbra Streisand, in the movie Funny Girl. His films were banned in Egypt as a result.

Ah yes, the religion of peace…

Mindless Nihilist Quote of the Week

Category: miscellaneousSteve @ 16:46 pm

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

This is so stupid it makes my head hurt…

A Defeat for Euthanasians

Woman gains diploma after 6 months in a coma, 4 years in therapy:

By CARY LEIDER VOGRIN
The Colorado Springs Gazette, May 25

In December 2001, Cassandra Bryant got the lowest possible score on the Glasgow Coma Scale. After a horrible car crash, a doctor urged that she be taken off life support. Her injuries were extensive; neurologically, she registered as dead.

Wednesday, Bryant, 21, graduated from Palmer High School.

‘We didn’t think this day would come,’ said her mother, Cheryl Bryant. ‘They said there was no hope.’

After six months in a coma and another four years of rehabilitation therapy, Cassandra Bryant has relearned how to walk and write. She cannot speak clearly, although her family can understand what a stranger cannot. She also has extensive trouble with short-term memory.

God is good, all the time.

Degrees of Extinctness

“Living fossil” found in Coral Sea – Science – MSNBC.com:

PARIS – French scientists who explored the Coral Sea said Friday they discovered a new species of crustacean that was thought to have become extinct 60 million years ago.The “living fossil,” a female designated Neoglyphea neocaledonica, was discovered 1,312 feet (400 meters) under water during an expedition in the Chesterfield Islands, northwest of New Caledonia, the National Museum of Natural History and the Research Institute for Development said in a statement.

[Marine biologist Philippe] Bouchet, in a telephone interview with The Associated Press, described the nearly 5-inch (12-centimeter) creature as “halfway between a shrimp and a mud lobster.” Its huge eyes, reddish spots and thickset body distinguished it from the 1908 crustacean.

With the Coral Sea discovery, “the group is less completely extinct than was thought,” he said.

Which would lead Miracle Max to ask, “Was he really extinct or only mostly extinct?”
