[Originally posted 25 August 2006]  Allahpundit posted this video on Hot Air. It’s Kevin Cosgrove’s 911 call from the 105th floor of World Trade Center 2. This needs to be required viewing in our schools so that our children never forget what was done to us that day.

In Memoriam, Douglas Stone, 9/11/2001

Category: 9-11, global war on terrorSteve @ 09:50 am

douglas_stone In Memoriam, Douglas Stone, 9/11/2001UPDATE:  DNA tests have identified the remains of three more people who died in the attacks on World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, including Douglas Stone. Praise God through whom all blessings flow.

[ORIGINAL POST]  Douglas Stone was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 bound from Boston to Los Angeles on 9/11. He died when his flight was hijacked by Muslim terrorists and flown into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Here is his obituary from Publisher’s Weekly:

Douglas Stone, co-owner of the short-run printer Odyssey Press of Dover, N.H., died September 11 when the airplane he was on, American Airlines flight 11, crashed into the World Trade Center. He was 54. Stone began his printing career at Trend Offset Printing in Los Angeles before moving in 1987 to Capital City Press in Montpelier, Vt., as comptroller. He founded Odyssey Press in 1989. A scholarship fund is being established at Dover High School in his memory, and donations may be sent to the Douglas J. Stone Scholarship Fund, c/o Odyssey Press, Crosby Rd., Dover, N.H. 03820.

A native New Englander with a dry sense of humor, Stone graduated from Cal State Long Beach but returned east in the late 1980s after he divorced. On his frequent trips to Los Angeles, he watched Zach, a Fountain Valley High School graduate, compete in track and cross-country. On this trip, he was coming back to see his son off to UCLA.

On that horrific day, 2,996 men, women and children were slaughtered by Islamic terrorists. Never forget. Pray for peace; pray for justice. There are a host of 9/11 memorial sites. One of my favorites is Lux Aeterna, put together by Hokule’a or you can look here for my collection of 9/11 images. Thanks also to DC Roe for putting together the 2996 project.

We will never forget.

What We Learned from 9/11 Conspiracy Theories

Category: 9-11, global war on terrorSteve @ 17:03 pm

Among other things-
“The U.S. is actually quite popular worldwide; so much so, in fact, that its government must create artificial terrorist organizations to attack it. Left to their own devices, everybody else pretty much respects Americans and leaves them alone .

“The government planted explosives at the exact aircraft impact sites of the Pentagon and both WTC towers, the explosives and activity surrounding their placement went completely unnoticed, the rigging of the explosives was unharmed by the aircraft impacts, and they went off exactly when planned.

“When you refer to the planes, say alleged aircraft .’ When referring to the terrorists, say alleged terrorists .” Because not only can we not be sure they even existed , but also, ‘alleged’ has such a nice, objective ring to it.”

“Those plane crashes were like so totally fake cuz they were so totally unlike all the real fiery passenger jet crashes into buildings I’ve seen in real life.”

Scottish Cardinal urges Muslims to apologize for 9/11 — and they’re outraged

Category: 9-11, global war on terrorSteve @ 20:27 pm

From Dhimmi Watch

Surprise, surprise — an unusual comment from a Christian leader, and an entirely predictable response. “O’Brien urges Muslims to say sorry for 9/11,” by Eddie Barnes in The Scotsman, with thanks to all who sent this in:

THE leader of Scotland’s Roman Catholics, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, has called for Muslims to apologise for the 9/11 and 7/7 bomb attacks, declaring that the public should not have to live “in fear of attack” from believers of the Islamic faith. In a move that has provoked a storm of outrage, the cardinal claims that, as the Pope apologised for the offence caused last month by his comments on the Islamic faith, so Muslims should now step up and say sorry for the attacks carried out in the name of their faith.

O’Brien said: “There have been no apologies for the shooting of the nun [in Somalia after the Pope made his remarks], let alone for 9/11 or the London bombings. I would like to see some reciprocal moves from the Islamic side. We shouldn’t have to live in fear of attack from Muslims.”…

Last night, the cardinal’s views on Islam had stirred up a new controversy, with Muslim leaders furious at the comment. They claimed that as the terrorist attacks were carried out by extremists, mainstream Muslims who had already condemned the actions had nothing to apologise for.

Exactly which mainstream Muslims apologized for the attacks?  I must have missed it.

Images of 9/11

Category: 9-11, global war on terrorSteve @ 18:15 pm

I’ve added a page of remembrance in honor of those who were brutally slain on 9/11.  It’s a collection of images I collected in the days and weeks following that horrific day.  To the best of my knowledge all pictures are in the public domain.  If you see any that aren’t please let me know and I will give attribution.

May God continue to bless the families of the victims.

Where Were You on 9/11?

Category: 9-11, global war on terrorSteve @ 10:17 am

In The Rubble

9/11 was a hugely defining moment around which we have oriented ourselves. In the past we asked — and could easily answer — “where were you when Jack Kennedy was shot?” or when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon or when the Challenger blew up. Those were powerful events which touched even those outside our culture.

But 9/11 changed the entire world.

Where were you when the planes hit the towers and the Pentagon?

I had just dropped the kids off at school when my wife called and told me to turn to the local news. It’s only five minutes from school to Peterson Air Force Base and in that time the news reports made it clearer that it wasn’t a random event. By the time I got on base and to my cubicle it became clear that it wasn’t a random event. A second plane hit the other Trade Center tower and then the Pentagon. We were gathered around radios and computers and the few televisions in the building. There were grown men - military officers - with tears in their eyes. Then came the horror as towers collapsed. At some point they released to go home early and over the next few days we watched over and over again as the planes hit the towers. We knew then that life would never be the same. I remember clearly the vain hope that there would be survivors in the wreckage.

Where were you?

Here is a link to my collection of pics of those events.  It’s important that we never forget what was done to us on that day.

9/11: It’s been 4 years, 5 months, and 3 days

Category: 9-11, miscellaneous, news and politicsSteve @ 10:10 am

I am  no longer conflicted about the mohammed cartoons. Laura Ingraham played clips from a Larry King interview with family members of those killed on 9/11. Some were on United Flight 93, on the other planes or in the Pentagon or WTC.  Their devastation and suffering is beyond belief, as is the utter barbarity of those acts.

When someone whines about the cartoons, remind them of these images.

And this is offensive?

Mohammed is da bomb

That Groaning You Heard Was Not the Earth

Category: 9-11, faith, global whining, scienceSteve @ 19:27 pm

This morning I heard a radio pastor preaching about the judgement of God on the Earth. I missed the intro, but I think his point was that God will show mercy to His people, even in the midst of calamity (i.e., hurricanes, terror attacks, etc.). He pointed to the story of Abraham and Sodom and Gomorrah. When God revealed through the angel that He was about to blast the place, Abraham asked, “What if there are 40 righteous men there? How about 30? 20?” Each time, God relented and said that He would spare the city if there were that many righteous. The implication is that He still destroyed the cities because that number of righteous men couldn’t be found there.

Fast forward to 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina. To follow this line of thought, either there were no righteous people killed in these events OR these events were not examples of God’s judgement on the US or New Orleans. I’m more inclined to believe the latter.

The preacher went on to state that Magnitude 7 earthquakes since 1900earthquakes are increasing in frequency and intensity as evidence that we are in/approaching the last days. I did a quick search on the US Geologic Survey site. The raw data are there, but I plotted the numbers in the attachment. Guess what? The number of major earthquakes worldwide has actually been decreasing.

We live in a fallen world in which bad things happen. People die horribly all the time. Do we deserve God’s righteous judgement? Absolutely. But can we get on with the business of reaching out to that fallen world and stop trying to pick dates for the end of it or blaming God for our sin-filled planet?
