Ghosts and the Christian Worldview

Category: faith, religionSteve @ 10:04 am

Have you ever seen a ghost?  Michael Patton has an excellent piece on ghosts and the Christian worldview.  Read the whole article (and the comments), because he presents three basic responses to the phenomenon:

1. No, there are no ghosts. Any supposed paranormal experience, if authentic, should be labeled as demonic activity.

2. Ghosts may be spirits of disembodied people who are left on the earth without explanation.

3. All “paranormal” activity has a naturalistic explanation.

He then provides a rational, scriptural view of each position.  Personally, it’s not something I lose sleep over.  It makes for good, creepy stories.  God has a plan, ghosts aren’t mentioned exhaustively in it, so I will trust that God knows what He’s doing with regard to spirits and leave it to Him.

One Response to “Ghosts and the Christian Worldview”

  1. Christian Beyer says:

OK- I haven’t ‘believed’ in flying saucers, Bigfoot, Nessie or ghosts since I was a teenager. And then my family encountered one last fall. I don’t know what it is - spirit, demon, psychic emanation- but I am convinced that it is supernatural. Here’s the link to the story as well as a the EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) voice recording. And this is no joke. It shook me up.
