"For now, I’ll give our president-elect some time and see whether he attempts to recreate this country as a repressive socialist welfare state. If he marches down that road, he’ll only make it easier for Gov Palin in the next election cycle."

I have thought the same thing, though insert "Republican Candidate X" ILO "Gov Palin" in your post.

Part of me is freaked out what Obama and a Democratic Congress could do in the next four years, and part of me is aware that the next administration could potentially undo his decisions just as easily as Obama plans to undo many of Bush's.

I'm hoping that, over the next four years, the American people see that soaring, silver-tongued rhetoric doesn't necessarily equal an administration that they'll actually like or agree with.

Similar to this and your most recent post, I have also thought that elected Republican officials have kowtowed to what they think the American public wants, allowing their stances to be set by polls and marketing research and what the Democrats are doing, instead of by the heritage and strengths of the party. If Republican officials will start acting like Republicans, I believe they'll have a lot more success in the next elections, and a lot more favor with Americans in general.

[...] There is talk that Mother Gov. Sarah Palin is the next Republican star, a vibrant and exciting woman poised to lead the Party out of the depths of despair that has come with the election of what I’m sure all agree is a terrorist-loving anti-American negro.
