Single Moms Oil Change
Looking for a great weekend ministry? In the area around our church live quite a few single moms. We’re always looking for opportunities to minister to them and their kids, and a few years ago we came up with the idea for a Single Moms Oil Change. It’s been a great tool for helping the needy in the area, as well as giving the guys a chance to get good and dirty.
This weekend we ended up changing the oil for 20 ladies and only stripped one drain plug (change their oil, not strip their drain plugs.) Some of the women were practically in tears that someone would do this for them, and it was clear that many hadn’t had their oil changed for a long time.
I’m not sure how scriptural an oil change is, but it was relatively easy to set up and the women appreciated it. A local garage and auto parts store gave us materials at cost, and let us dump the oil afterward. We’ve had several women and their kids come back to the church over the past few years - and a few have made it their church home. We don’t do it to swell our numbers, but it’s a fun outreach that makes a practical difference for a lot of folks that could use a hand.
